Find Allegany County Booking Photos

Allegany County jail mugshots are booking photos tied to current detention records, not proof of guilt or a final criminal record. The county roster can display a photo on an active inmate profile, while the results list itself may show only identifying and booking fields. A search to find Allegany County booking photos should start with the official jail roster, then use the jail phone line or Public Information Act request process when a photo is not posted online.

Allegany County Jail Mugshots

The official Allegany County roster displays booking photos on active inmate profiles when a profile includes one. Research inspected an active profile that contained a single front-facing image path under the jail's mugshot folder. The photo appeared near the name and identity section, beside data such as date of birth, age, inmate number, visit value, status, booking date, race, and sex.

The results list did not show thumbnails. A user had to search the roster, open a name from the list, then view the active profile. No historical photo archive, prior booking-photo gallery, recent-bookings feed, or multiple photo angles were located in the official roster review. The roster also does not publish a photo-retention period after release.

Find Allegany Booking Photos

Use the official roster first because it is the public path that research confirmed. Last Name or Nick Name is required. First Name, Sex, and Race can narrow results, but filters can also hide a match if the entered value differs from the jail record.

  1. Open the Allegany County inmate search.
  2. Search by last name or nickname, then narrow only when needed.
  3. Open the person's name from the results list to reach the active inmate profile.
  4. Look near the top identity section for the booking photo and booking fields.
  5. If no profile or photo appears, call the Allegany County Detention Center at 301-729-8540 or submit a precise PIA request.

The sheriff's mobile app is also an official channel. The county communications hub says the Allegany County Sheriff MD app lets users search inmates and sign up for inmate change-of-status notifications. It also advertises wanted-fugitive information, but the website research did not locate a separate official web warrant gallery.

Allegany Mugshot Profile Fields

A booking photo is displayed with a broader booking profile. That context matters because the photo alone does not show the final court outcome. The profile's own warning says the record is arrest and booking information, not a final criminal history.

FieldWhat It Shows
Booking PhotoOne front-facing image was observed on an active profile. No multiple angles or historical images were observed.
NameLast, first format, with middle name if present.
DOB and AgeFull birth date and age appeared on the inspected profile.
Inmate NumberNumeric jail identifier tied to the booking profile.
StatusActive status appeared in red on the inspected profile.
Booking DateDate and 24-hour booking time.
Race and SexPublic text values shown with the profile.
Bond and ChargesA bond section and charge section appeared, but the inspected sample did not show a public bond amount.

The public profile did not show a home address, housing unit, projected release date, arresting agency, next court date, statute class, or side-view photo. For court outcomes, use Maryland Case Search rather than treating the booking photo as the record of conviction.

Are Allegany Mugshots Public?

Maryland's Public Information Act starts from a right to inspect public records unless another law allows or requires denial. General Provisions §4-201 states the general inspection rule. The county's own PIA channel is the documented route for booking records or mugshots that are not posted on the roster.

Maryland mugshot policy has a specific history. A Maryland General Assembly fiscal note for House Bill 744 described a 2007 Attorney General position that mug shots held by a police department are not protected criminal-history record information under MPIA and must be disclosed in response to MPIA requests, subject to other lawful exemptions. The same policy background addressed removal rules when public records are shielded, removed, or judgments are vacated.

Key Statutes:

Maryland General Provisions §4-201 sets the general public-record inspection rule unless another law limits access.

Maryland Criminal Procedure §10-105 provides expungement paths for eligible police, court, and state or local records.

Allegany Mugshot Access Limits

The Allegany County roster shows booking photos only inside active profiles when a photo is included. Research did not locate a public historical photo search, a daily mugshot report, or a stated rule for how long a photo stays on the roster after release. A person can also move out of county custody to state prison, federal custody, another county, or another jurisdiction, which changes the correct records system.

What is and isn't public: A current active profile may show one booking photo and booking fields. The roster is not a conviction record, complete photo archive, or guarantee that every image remains public after release.

For state prisoners, the Maryland DPSCS locator gives housing-location information for many people committed to the Commissioner of Correction, but it is not the county jail roster. For federal prisoners at FCI Cumberland, the BOP locator provides identity and location fields, not federal booking mugshots.

Request Allegany Booking Photos

If a booking photo is not posted, use the Allegany County Public Information Act process. The county accepts online requests, mail, email, fax, delivery-service submissions, and in-person submissions. The online Public Information Request form is the cleanest documented starting point, while the county's Public Information Requests page lists the full contact and fee rules.

A useful mugshot request should name the person, provide a booking date if known, include the inmate number if the roster showed one, and identify the record as a booking photo or booking record from the Allegany County Detention Center. The county page says the first two hours are free, with possible staff, copy, delivery, and other costs after that. Requests go through Allegany County Government, Attention: Maddie Taylor, Legal Secretary, County Attorney's Office, 701 Kelly Road, Cumberland, MD 21502, phone 301-777-5823, email mtaylor@alleganygov.org, fax 301-724-6970.

Allegany Mugshot Removal

Removal starts with the legal status of the underlying police or court record. If an arrest or court matter has been expunged, shielded, or otherwise restricted, use the court order and contact the originating agency about record handling. For court records after a jail arrest, the relevant Maryland expungement path is Criminal Procedure §10-105, which covers eligible outcomes such as acquittal, dismissal, nolle prosequi, stet, and other listed results.

The Maryland legislative history reviewed in the research addressed commercial mugshot posting and removal policy, including the idea that removal fees should not be charged after qualifying record-clearing events. For Allegany County records, the practical official route is still the court record-clearing process plus a request to the public agency that holds or displays the booking photo. Do not pay a private site for an official county correction.

Photo Is Not Conviction

The Allegany County roster disclaimer is especially important for mugshots. It says arrest and booking data should not be relied on to determine the actual criminal record, may not reflect State's Attorney charging decisions, and may not reflect trial outcomes. Acquittal or dismissal does not necessarily negate the validity of the arrest, but the final disposition belongs in the court record.

For the court side of the same event, use Allegany County court records after a jail arrest.

State and Federal Photos

Western Correctional Institution and North Branch Correctional Institution are Maryland state prisons, not county jail facilities. Their prisoners are searched through the DPSCS Incarcerated Individual Locator, and DPSCS warns that the locator does not list everyone in custody. It is used for state housing-location information, not Allegany County booking mugshots.

FCI Cumberland is a federal Bureau of Prisons facility. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to the present and displays fields such as name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. BOP and U.S. Marshals public locators generally do not publish federal booking mugshots.
