FCI Cumberland Overview
The official BOP FCI Cumberland page describes FCI Cumberland as a medium-security federal correctional institution with an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp. It houses sentenced male federal inmates, while the camp houses minimum-security male federal inmates. FCI Cumberland is physically in Allegany County, but it is not operated by the county sheriff or Maryland DPSCS.
This distinction is central to inmate lookup. A person in federal custody at FCI Cumberland will not be found through the Allegany County Detention Center roster. A person in Maryland state prison custody will not be found through the BOP locator unless that person is also in federal custody. Federal prisoners, release dates, register numbers, and BOP locations are handled through BOP systems.
The BOP FCI Cumberland page screenshot shows the federal facility profile and its public contact details.
The BOP page is the source to check for the institution profile, while the BOP inmate locator is the source to search for a specific federal inmate.
FCI Cumberland Population
BOP public facility data modified June 11, 2026 listed 1,138 total inmates at Cumberland, including 883 at the FCI and 255 at the satellite camp. That figure is the current sourced population in the research file. It is a federal prison population, not a county jail population or Maryland DPSCS prison count.
BOP population can change after transfers, releases, sentence recalculation, disciplinary movement, or facility operations. The BOP locator also warns that First Step Act credits may affect release-date accuracy. Use BOP as the custody source, then confirm urgent visit or release questions through the institution.
Lookup FCI Cumberland Inmates
Search FCI Cumberland through the BOP inmate locator. BOP says the locator covers federal inmates incarcerated from 1982 to the present. It can search by register number or by name. A BOP result may show Name, Register Number, Age, Race, Sex, Release Date, and Location. BOP does not provide public federal mugshots through the locator.
- Open the BOP inmate locator and choose a number search or name search.
- For number search, use a BOP Register Number, DCDC Number, FBI Number, or INS Number if known.
- For name search, enter first and last name, then narrow with middle name, race, age, or sex if needed.
- Confirm the result location is FCI Cumberland or Cumberland Camp.
- If the person may be in state or county custody instead, search DPSCS or the Allegany County roster separately.
| BOP Search Field | Use | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Register Number | Number search | BOP register format is commonly shown as five digits, hyphen, three digits. |
| DCDC, FBI, or INS Number | Number search | Useful when a register number is not known. |
| First, Middle, Last | Name search | Middle name is optional but can narrow common names. |
| Race, Age, Sex | Filters | Optional fields for narrowing a name search. |
FCI Cumberland Contact
Use BOP contact information for federal facility questions, including visits, approved correspondence rules, and institutional procedures. Do not call the Allegany County jail for federal inmate lookup unless the person may have been locally booked before a federal transfer.

FCI Cumberland Visits
FCI Cumberland follows BOP visiting procedures. The research notes that the BOP page directs visitors to the official visiting PDF, while the static capture did not populate a complete schedule. Federal visitors generally must be approved on the inmate's visiting list, follow identification and dress requirements, and check current institution status before travel. Lockdowns, weather, staffing, or security events can affect visits.
| Visit Topic | Schedule Located | Rules |
|---|---|---|
| FCI visits | Use current BOP visiting procedures | Visitors must be approved and follow federal entry rules. |
| Camp visits | Use current BOP visiting procedures | Confirm whether camp and FCI schedules differ. |
| Before travel | Call FCI Cumberland | Confirm current visiting status, approval, ID, and dress requirements. |
Note: Federal visiting schedules can change without appearing in county or state systems, so confirm directly with BOP before travel.
FCI Cumberland Mail
BOP public data gives the inmate mail address for both the FCI and the camp. Mail should include the inmate's name and register number. Camp mail uses the same post office box with "SATELLITE CAMP" in the address block when applicable. Federal mail is screened under BOP rules, and money procedures should be checked through BOP before sending funds.
| Service | Provider or Detail |
|---|---|
| FCI Mail | Inmate name and register number, FCI Cumberland, P.O. Box 1000, Cumberland, MD 21501. |
| Camp Mail | Use the same P.O. Box and include SATELLITE CAMP in the address block when applicable. |
| Phone | Federal inmate phone access follows BOP institutional rules and approved-contact procedures. |
| Money | Use current BOP-approved deposit methods. Do not use county JailATM or Maryland DPSCS account tools. |
FCI Cumberland Intake
FCI Cumberland intake is federal prison intake, not local arrest booking. Federal inmates arrive through BOP designation, transfer, or sentence administration. The BOP locator may show federal custody location and release-date information, but it does not show county booking photos, local bond sections, or Maryland court charge fields.
If a person was arrested locally and later moved into federal custody, the county roster may no longer show that person after transfer. If a person has a federal detainer, "Released" or "Not in BOP Custody" in BOP should not be read as proof that all supervision or custody has ended. BOP warns that other justice-system, parole, or supervision status may still apply.
About FCI Cumberland
FCI Cumberland adds a federal layer to Allegany County's custody map. The county contains the local detention center, two state prisons, and this federal institution. Each system answers a different inmate-search question. County jail custody points to the sheriff's roster. Maryland state prison custody points to DPSCS. Federal prison custody points to BOP.
No dedicated ICE detention center was located in Allegany County in the research. If an immigration hold or immigration custody is suspected, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System and legal or ICE channels rather than assuming the person remains at the county jail or FCI Cumberland.
Note: Confirm FCI Cumberland custody, visiting status, and mail rules through BOP before traveling or sending funds.
